Once again, students are scattered across the Main Green, the University Hall bell is marking our daily treks to class and we are back at 88 Benevolent St. Although we loved the slower pace of our summers, we are overjoyed to start another semester of production, working with our wonderful staff to serve you, our readers. Today marks the first print issue of the fall 2026 semester.
Over the summer, we continued to keep the Brown community informed of the University’s most pressing issues. We shared that President Christina Paxson P’19 P’MD’20 would be stepping down at the end of the academic year and reported on the findings of the external review Brown underwent following the shooting.
We also covered issues impacting the Providence community at large — including the long-awaited return of the Providence Public School District from state to local control and the intense Democratic mayoral primary.
And it’s not just our news staff that’s been hard at work. Our tech team and collaborators at SNWorks spent the summer busy designing the new website we unveiled earlier this week, marking our first major site update in five years.
We also updated The Herald’s app to include our Mini Crossword — previously only published on our website — and a leaderboard where community members can compete to be the fastest puzzle-solver on campus.
Each of these accomplishments was made possible by our incredible staff of multimedia creators, copy editors, reporters, editors, data staff, post- magazine staffers and opinion writers. They are the lifeblood of our organization, ensuring that we have high-quality content to adorn our shiny new site and freshly updated app. We’re grateful for our finance and sales teams, who make sure we have the funds to keep this organization running.
As we watch first-years flood the Main Green, we are excited for them to join us in this era of innovation and growth at The Herald.
